I am pleased to share that I was recently interviewed by Canvas Rebel, where I spoke about my journey into SEO consulting, the industries I serve and why I believe purpose-driven marketing can make a profound difference for small & medium-sized businesses.

I am pleased to share that I was recently interviewed by Canvas Rebel, where I spoke about my journey into SEO consulting, the industries I serve and why I believe purpose-driven marketing can make a profound difference for small & medium-sized businesses.

This interview was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on my path from video game design to founding my own woman-owned SEO consulting agency, KC SEO Consulting Services.

Based near Seattle, I now work with clients primarily across the Pacific Northwest & beyond, including Seattle, Portland and the San Francisco Bay Area (SF Bay Area).

In the feature, I discuss the skills I carried over from entertainment and technology into digital marketing, the values that guide my client work and the services I most enjoy delivering.

Below are some of the key highlights from my conversation with Canvas Rebel:

From Video Games to SEO Consulting

The article highlights how I view marketing and SEO in much the same way I approached game design - as a strategy game that requires creativity, analysis and iteration. I emphasized that:

“Every webpage is part of a story, and every user journey matters.”

This perspective is a thread that runs throughout my work. Whether I am writing optimized content for a winery, developing an SEO strategy for a wellness retreat or mapping out blog calendars for a tourism board, I approach each project with the mindset of a designer.

My goal is always to understand the end user’s journey and ensure that the experience - whether in a game or on a website - is intuitive, compelling and meaningful.

Why I Focus on Purpose-Driven Businesses

One of the questions in the interview was about who I enjoy working with most. I shared that I love collaborating with organizations that are connecting people, entertaining or bettering our world.

“I enjoy working with businesses that connect people, entertain or make a positive impact. That’s why I focus on industries like wineries, tourism, wellness retreat centers and nonprofits.”

The interview gave me space to explain why I chose this direction. I believe that SEO is most effective when the business behind it has a clear story and mission. For example:

  • A winery in Oregon may want to attract visitors planning weekend trips. SEO can connect them with people searching “wine tasting Portland” or “best Willamette Valley wineries.”

  • A wellness retreat in Washington might need to show up when potential guests search “stress relief retreat Seattle” or “one-day retreat for women.”

  • A tourism brand in the SF Bay Area may want to appear for “family-friendly San Francisco weekend getaway.”

Each of these examples shows how SEO copywriting and strategy can directly connect values-driven businesses with the audiences they are best positioned to serve.

Services Highlighted in the Interview

The Canvas Rebel article also touches on my approach to services. I explained that while my agency offers a range of marketing solutions, I primarily focus on SEO consulting, SEO copywriting and content strategy.

“My strength lies in creating SEO-optimized content that not only ranks but also engages real people. I combine research, writing and strategy so my clients can rank for their ideal customers.”

This includes:

  • Comprehensive keyword research and strategy development

  • SEO copywriting for websites, blogs and landing pages

  • On-page and technical SEO audits

  • Competitor analysis and positioning

  • Content calendars and monthly reporting to track progress

I also mentioned that my video game design background informs my secondary offering: VR and AR marketing. This isn’t the focus of my agency, but for clients who want to innovate with immersive campaigns, it provides a unique option.

“I love experimenting with VR and AR marketing because it allows businesses to tell their story in a more interactive way. But at the core of my agency is SEO - building visibility through content and strategy that works long-term.”

The Value of SEO as a Long-Term Investment

One of the main themes of the interview was why SEO matters for businesses, especially those in competitive industries. I highlighted how SEO creates lasting value compared to other marketing methods:

“Unlike social media posts or ads that vanish when the budget stops, SEO builds a foundation. A well-optimized website continues to bring in clients month after month, year after year.”

This long-term perspective is especially important for seasonal industries like wineries, retreat centers and tourism. Visibility during peak times is crucial, but maintaining consistent rankings during slower months ensures businesses don’t disappear from search results when people are still planning ahead.

Serving Seattle, Portland and the SF Bay Area

“KC SEO Consulting Services is based near Seattle, but I also work with clients in Portland and the San Francisco Bay Area. These are places I know well, and I understand both their local cultures and their competitive landscapes.”

Being woman-owned and boutique-sized, I bring a personalized approach to each client, regardless of location. I only take on a select number of clients at a time so I can give each business my full attention.

Whether it’s a winery in Oregon wine country, a retreat center near Seattle or a tourism board in California, my approach remains the same - listen carefully, create a strategy that matches the business’ goals and execute with both creativity and precision.

Key Takeaways from the Interview

The Canvas Rebel feature was an opportunity to share my story, but also to underline what makes KC SEO Consulting Services different. Some of the highlights include:

  • A woman-owned SEO consulting agency focused on mission-driven businesses

  • Expertise rooted in both creative storytelling and technical SEO strategy

  • Services centered on SEO copywriting, content strategy and consulting

  • A background in video game design, offering unique VR/AR marketing possibilities

  • A strong presence in Seattle, Portland and the San Francisco Bay Area

I am grateful for the chance to share these insights with the Canvas Rebel community. The interview captured not only the services I provide but also the values that guide me as a business owner.

Moving Forward

I closed the interview with a reminder that SEO is a partnership, not just a service.

“I don’t want to drown clients in confusing data. I want them to understand the ‘why’ behind every step, so they feel empowered in their marketing journey.”

As I look ahead, I remain committed to helping more businesses in Seattle, Portland and the SF Bay Area grow their visibility through SEO. My work is most rewarding when I see a client’s website begin ranking for the exact phrases their ideal customers are typing into Google - and when those rankings translate into real-world growth.
